The Android app

The Android Hub runs on Android 8.0 and later, on phones, foldables, tablets and Chromebooks. It has the same screens and names as every other Hub app, so the other guides apply as written. This page covers what's specific to Android.

Installing

Staff and testers install builds shared through Google Play's internal testing track. A public Play listing comes with the first release. Each screen's help page shows whether the Android app has built it yet, in On your platform.

Layout

Width Navigation
Phones (under 600 dp) Bottom bar: Home · Inbox · Orgs · Manage · Account
Small tablets and unfolded foldables The same five, in a rail on the left
Tablets and Chromebooks (840 dp and wider) A permanent menu with every section
  • Manage (Manage hub) holds Administration and Developer on narrower layouts.
  • Account holds Plan & Billing, Settings and Help.
  • On a phone, the destination you came from stays highlighted while you're inside one of its screens.

Help

Every screen's top bar has a ? button. It opens that screen's page in this help center in a Custom Tab. Account › Help & documentation lists the guides.

  • Links to https://dashboard.substratalapps.com/… open in the app, once the dashboard host publishes the app's verification file. Until then they open in the browser.
  • substratal:// links, such as substratal://admin/users, always open the app.
  • A link opened while you're signed out takes you there after you sign in.

Offline

Screens you've already opened keep showing what was last loaded. Every change needs a connection, so turning someone's access off always takes effect immediately; there's no offline queue.

Security

  • Your session's refresh token is encrypted with a key held in the device's secure hardware, and it's excluded from device backups and transfers.
  • The access token lives only in memory and lasts 15 minutes; the app renews it in the background, one refresh at a time.
  • Signing out ends the session on the server and removes everything from the device.

API version

The app sends Substratal-Version: 1 with every request. If the API marks that version deprecated, the app shows an Update the app banner with the retirement date. See API versioning.
